Swiftsure International Yacht Race May 23 Rugged, exacting, colourful and international in competition. Every year, the Swiftsure International Yacht Race is a major community event - the premiere long distance sailing race in the B.C. and US Pacific Northwest area and a festival on shore. It is a race in which cruising yachts capable of adventure in exposed waters are encouraged to compete and crews to test their skills. Swiftsure has drawn boats and sailors from California, Hawaii, New Zealand and even Russia. The nature of the course and the potential variety of sailing conditions provide an exacting review of good seamanship. The skipper and crew must be willing to test their collective knowledge and sailing experience to maximize their overall performance. |

Classic Boat Festival The Festival on August 29 - September 1, 2008 offers a wonderful event for the whole family over the Labour Day weekend. Whether you are a local resident or are visiting from out of town, we invite you to come to the Inner Harbour and enjoy the sights and sounds of this celebration of our maritime heritage. There is no charge to view the vessels in the Festival and a number of boaters graciously allow members of the public onboard to view their vessels close up. Whether you are a regular boater at the festival or a first-time participant, we welcome you. The festival offers a wonderful opportunity for owners of classic boats to get together and share their love of these vessels with an appreciative public. |

The Victoria Jazz Society The Victoria Jazz Society is a professional arts organization committed to presenting the highest quality of jazz possible to our community, by presenting music in performance, with acclaimed musicians. Since 1981, through its innovative artistic vision, the VJS has attracted thousands of leading artists from around the world to perform in Victoria. Hundreds of thousands of fans have enjoyed many outstanding festival and non-festival performances that have featured the full spectrum of jazz and improvised music - from the traditional and mainstream, to the avant-garde, including worldbeat and the blues. The Victoria Jazz Society's primary activity is to produce two major multi-day music festivals in the summer, JazzFest International and the Vancouver Island Blues Bash, as well as a series of concerts from September to May, all featuring international, national and regional jazz artists. |
